Its All About The Fashion

Miss Earth

Since its inception in 2001, the Miss Earth Pageant has been hosted by Philippines. Carousel Productions Inc founded the contest, with the idea that beauty queens would make good and effective advocates for worthy causes. Miss Earth has gone on to becoming the third largest beauty pagent in the world and participants and winners get actively involved in the promotion and preservation of the environment.

During the pageant month Miss Earth candidates are taken to selected tourism destinations to showcase and promote environmental projects to the pageant's international viewers.

The candidates also take part in tree planting ceremonies, environmental and cultural immersion programs, sponsor visits and tours. However the pageant gained worldwide attention when Vida Samadzai, a participant from Afghanistan, competed in a red bikini causing uproar in her native land and other Islamic countries.

Around 80 countries participated in the Miss Earth beauty pageant in 2005. Runner up contestants are bestowed the titles of Miss Earth Air, Miss Earth Water and Miss Earth Fire.

Established in 2004, the Miss Earth Foundation allows Miss Earth winners to campaign for environmental causes with the help of local and international groups and non-governmental organizations. Alexandra Waldeck Braun from Venezuela won the Miss Earth title in 2005.
