Miss World

Eric Morley founded the Miss World beauty contest in 1951 and eight years later BBC televised the contest. Since then, the Miss World show drew the attention of millions of viewers worldwide. Despite objections raised by religious authorities over the swimsuit round and feminists over the representation of women, Miss World managed to successfully go on for half a century.

In 2000, a massive television audience of 2.3 billion watched the Miss World show. With franchises now in over 120 countries and fundraising topping £150 million, Miss World beauty pageant continues to break records and stun all critics with its enormous worldwide success.

The Miss World Organization owns and manages the annual Miss World Finals and the chairman of the organisation is Julia Morley. Since 2003, the Miss World contest includes categories like Beach Beauty, Talent, Miss Sport, Top Model, Personality, Peoples Choice and Contestants Choice.

Julia Morley also created Beauty with a Purpose to raise money for charities around the world. India and Venezuela are two countries who have the maximum number of Miss World title winners.

The first Indian woman to win the tilte was Reita Faria in 1966 and after a 28 year gap, Aishwarya Rai became the second Indian to win the title.
