Fashion designing originated in Paris during the 19th century, when a dressmaker by the name of Charles Frederick Worth began to sew his label to the garments he created and he established the House of Worth.

His former apprentice Paul Poiret followed his lead and what followed after that is history. The fashion industry thrived and fashion designers became popular throughout the 20th century

Along with clothing, haute couture accessories developed. The golden era of French fashion produced fashion houses of Coco Chanel, Nina Ricci and Lacoste. Soon fashion spread to Britain, America and other parts of the world. After the Second World War, more creative fashion designers emerged, like Givenchy, Pierre Cardin, Paco Rabanne and Yves Saint Laurent, to name a few.

Later on, other influential designers like Calvin Klein, Donna Karen and Giorgio Armani established themselves in the world fashion market. |
