Fashion History |
|
Fashion has played a part in human life even before one understood what the term meant. Before the invention of textile, around the world men and women wore clothes made out of animal skin, branches and leaves. However with the formation of social groups, a particular dress code was invented to distinguish between groups.

Within the group, clothing might have differed according to rank, social status, occupation and gender. This development took place throughout the world and with the evolution of culture, the dress code of one community differed from another. Fashion became a form of free speech.

With advancement of industry and technology, particularly the railway, communication between countryside and city improved, allowing the cycle of fashion to speed up. People were introduced to new clothing materials, styles and trends. During World War I, women had to replace men in the workforce.

These women who came from different classes were encouraged to adopt more practical clothing and try out new styles in fashion, hair and beauty. Fashion came to be designed for daily life and was no longer restricted to a particular section of society. Today fashion and beauty can be affordable for everyone.
