Mario Prada founded Prada in 1931 as a leather goods company but in 1978 it was turned into a couture house by Mario's granddaughter Miuccia Prada, who launched her first ready-to-wear" collection in 1989 and three years later, also intrioduced Miu Miu, an affordable line for younger people.

Miu Miu was then followed by the launch of the Prada Sport collection and in 1995 Miuccia launched her Prada menswear collection. The Prada label stands for style and luxury. The distinct silver Prada triangle is found on Prada products. Prada for women includes a fine collection of dresses, tops, t-shirts, pants, belts, socks, handbags, hats, sunglasses and fragrances.

For men, Prada comprises of shirts, sweaters, jeans, jackets, swimwear, briefcases, shoes, sunglasses, wallets, belts and keychains.

Prada has 250 fully owned shops around the world including those in Europe, North America and Asia. Other Prada brands are Prada Donna, Prada Uomo and Granello.
