Rudolf Dassler founded Puma in 1948 after several athletes scored victories at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games wearing Dassler shoes. Puma became a sportslifesyle company that successfully launched PUMA Atom, the first football shoe, followed by SUPER ATOM and its succession model BRASIL.

Top football players wore the Puma shoes and the brand gained recognition worldwide.
Soon other sports athletes followed suite and Puma shoes became the most favored brand of shoes by sportsmen world over. Between the 1960s and 1970s several athletes scored a series of victories and they had one thing in common - Puma shoes.

In 1982, world famous football player Diego Maradona of Argentina played his first World Cup in PUMA boots. The same year the PUMA Duoflex sole was also invented.
In 1998, together with designer Jill Sander, Puma launched a footwear collection. In 2006 the company launched PUMA Golf offering performance footwear, apparel and accessories and select lifestyle pieces for men and women.
