Lucire started as an online fashion magazine in 1997. The founder of Lucire, Jack Yan had wanted the magazine to go into print, but after many unsuccessful ventures, he released a PDA edition and increasingly formalized Lucire's presence in New York and London. Finally in 2001, Lucire became a print magazine and its huge success resulted in a Webby Award nomination and United Nations Environment Programme partnership.

The success of Lucire- LNZFW supplement, an e-book launched by Lucire and L'Oréal New Zealand Fashion Week containing every collection from the LNZFW catwalks, resulted in launch of the magazine in New Zealand in 2004 and a year later in Romania.
